Great again! I always share these on social media, and deeply admire the wonderful work that Mr. Boehlert is doing.

I also was reminded of history (as a history professor, I suppose that's an occupational hazard). Does anybody remember that republicans similarly were opposed to any kind of government during the Clinton administration, and the media--admittedly not then including some of the outlets we have now--similarly did not do their jobs?

I would say it was worse than the media not doing their jobs. The media aided and abetted the Republican obstruction of Clinton. They spread right wing propaganda about the Clinton healthcare reform proposals and they pushed completely baseless scandals like Whitewater, Filegate, Travelgate, Chinagate/Wen Ho Lee..... The NY Times led the way on most of that misreporting. It was disgraceful and horrifying.

I was trying to be too nice ... :) For what it's worth, I have harangued The Times's top editor, saying that he still needs to apologize to the public for helping put #trumpvirus in the White House with their dishonest reporting on the Clintons. For some reason, he wasn't pleased.

When I saw the headline of this article the first thing I thought of was the protests against the Iraq War so I googled it. I had no idea that the international protest of that war in February ‘03 is considered the largest protest in history - and I was paying close attention. The media really downplayed the coverage.

These shutdown protests are tiny and I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the protesters had been paid by people like Betsy DeVos and her Brother Eric Prince. If I remember correctly the Koch Brothers funded the rise of the Tea Party although they denied it. The media treated the Tea Party like it was a true grass roots movement of people they see as “real Americans” not as the astroturf movement that it really was.

the NYT famously botched its coverage of a gigantic anti-Iraq War rally. they put the story on like pg 8 in the old Metro section

No propaganda rag pushed for war with Iraq more than the New York Times...and people like my son believed them so much that they gladly joined the Marines...and wound up killed.

I will NEVER forgive the liars at the New York Times. NEVER!!!!!

So glad you wrote this. I have become so frustrated with our news media with their relentless coverage of Trump. My local news outlets, (All FOX/Sinclair Network Alliated) give have positive coverage of him and his followers. Living in a heavily conservative part of my state is disheartening for so many.

yeah, I’m sure it’s even tougher in red states having to watch that local coverage

I don’t have the energy to go into detail but suffice it to that there’s been nothing significantly liberal about the liberal media since the late 1970s. Since that time — over 40 years — they have been overwhelmingly supportive of the GOP (which, TBH, overlaps completely where it counts with the establishment’s desires but supporting the GOP is how the propaganda is pushed by the media).

Near-latest example is a prominent Times piece saying that austerity is needed again. Again, no energy to detail but it’s proven not to be the solution to impoverishment but rather a cause.

Same people, same press. Of course they get fawning coverage.

The CCCP--Corporate Controlled Conservative Press is in the pocket of the Republican Party and they will endlessly promote Republican propaganda. The CCCP is just as complicit in pumping up the 2020 Covidiots as they were in pumping up the Teabaggers in 2010.
