My Hamilton moment: I was kind of in The Room Where It Happened. More accurately, the media room where they were watching the debate, which was held at UNLV. When the future treasonous, bigoted, mass-murdering rapist-in-chief wouldn't say whether he'd accept the election results, the noise was weird. About a quarter of it was a gasp, a quarter of it a snort, a quarter of it a wheezing laugh, and a quarter of it "whoa." Then they moved right on to whatever squirrel ran by next.

Thus my doubts that they will avoid repeating the same mistakes.

Dreading the debate and the coverage for the very reasons you outline here. I guess we'll have to watch to see it for ourselves.

yes, it was rather depressing to go back and look again at the 2016 debate coverage....

Just your recap triggered my rage. That plus the fact I watched Part 2 of the Comey movie on Showtime. 2016 campaign was just awful. I'm not watching the debate because of Trump and the media theatrics. I trust my Twitter tribe to keep me posted.

OT - I do recommend The Comey Rule on Showtime. The actor who portrayed Trump was so good I felt sick while watching him.

Or not. I turned my ballot in to my BOE yesterday. Here in NC it has already been scanned into the machine that records my votes and will be tallied immediately on election day. So my vote is in and counted. I don’t need to increase my blood pressure or ruin my night by watching the debate on the chance that Trump will foam at the mouth or grow horns.

I'm with you why upset myself when we know he's a liar and thief I know who I'm voting for no need to listen to his crazy ass.

Great, great song. And so unbelievably perfect for this time in history.

As for the debate tonight, I think Trump is going to be crazy, incoherent and boring, if his rallies of late are any indication. People are just tired of his bullshit, of all the chaos and bullshit that surrounds him.

All Joe Biden has to do is keep his cool, pound him on Covid, his taxes, and ACA, and then let Trump destroy himself, and for God’s sake say, “Well now, that’s the $750 question” at every opportunity. 😂

The media’s bothsidism is just irrelevant at this point. If anything, this debate will move Biden’s numbers up even more. I mean, there’s nothing centrist and conservative Americans love more than a fatherly old white guy.

"Trump is going to be crazy, incoherent and boring, " describes him very well for last 4 yrs.

but srsly, he is incredibly boring and repetitive....but DC press treats him like magnetic media star

I think even they are tired of him now. He’s getting slammed by the media post-debate. The novelty of his 2016 antics has finally worn off. That he isn’t trailing in the polls at 25% or less is a testament to how fucked up America is right now. But at least he’s trailing.

I've lost respect for the so called journalist who cover everything 45 has to say, knowing his is lying about everything. I wonder if they are afraid of losing their jobs or the people above them don't let them tell the truth. Over 200,000 people dead this so called president has no empathy and the people who enable him, each time you look at your hands they have blood on them that will not wash off. But I guess they don't care either as long as they walk away with money because we all know that is why America is in such a state. GREED

This is a good run down but are these errors or part of that horse race narrative with which we're so familiar? I go back to the first debate in 2000 in which Gore mopped the floor with Bush but was declared the loser because he came across as arrogant.

Oh geez, I had forgotten abt that awful Gore debate spin by the press.

Oh I never forgot the hatred the Corporate Controlled Conservative Press had for Gore. For those who need a refresher on just how the Press endlessly glorified Dumbya, check out Bob Somerby's Daily Howler archives!

Oh yes, Daily Howler a great resource

Actually the instant polls of people who had watched that debate clearly showed that Gore had won. Do did the immediate media reports which all but ignored his sighs but then:

“Republican operatives promptly spliced together a reel of Gore sighing which was then sent to right-wing radio outlets. Eighteen hours later, the pundits could talk of little else.”

https://www.vanityfair.com/news/2007/10/gore200710

By the end of that week polls showed people believed that Gore had lost the debate. Republican propagandists had succeeded in manipulating the media to focus on Gore’s sighs and that focus clearly changed the public’s perception.

Thanks for calling out the media's sickening enabling and normalizing of this psychotic lying treasonous impeached mass murdering mega-criminal because, ratings! Profits!

Fox propaganda - the real Fake News - has succeeded in establishing mass brainwashing by nonstop fascist lying as completely acceptable and the "real" media goes right along.

You cannot win with these Trump ghouls. They love it that Trump comes across as an uninformed, boorish, inexperienced, and shallow-minded, as well as a bully. "That's because he's not a politician and he speaks his mind," they say. For them, either Hillary, Gore or Biden have to be comparatively rejected as "politicians" who are inherently dishonest. Their crime is that they come across as sincere, intelligent, informed, competent and sympathetic.

Trump will lie, cheat, squeal and strut. In other words, it's Tuesday.

Silly silly thought but when I see that pic of Trump and Hillary I think their poses make it look like they're performing a Donny and Marie song ("I'm A Little Bit Country"). I dare you all to disagree with me!
