This abhorrent behavior is what access journalism has wrought. By allowing Trump to continue his onslaught without consequence, he is emboldened as all bullies are. Though I am not blaming the targeted journalists, the PRESS writ large is complicit in Trump's rise as much as Congressional Republicans. Time to stop writing him off, whining and start calling a spade a spade in every headline and every article.
I didn’t want to lean to heavily in my column in terms of blaming the press, but it’s quite clear over last three yrs they’ve given him green light to billy w impunity
Agreed ~ there is indeed a fine line between blaming the press and holding the press accountable and my words, complicit. Too many outlets have been willing to minimize Trump's attacks appealing to higher principles but forgetting that he doesn't play by the same rules.
I liked your tweet about Trump hiding in the basement while Biden was out talking to protestors. Heck, even Nixon had the courage to do that. I remember how bizarre it was when he went out at night to visit students protesters camping out at the Lincoln Memorial. He actually had a civilized discussion with them.
Nixon is being mentioned for being willing to meet with protesters. Does anybody remember his pleasure in violence against protesters and journalists? And that he incited them?
The republican party has been perpetrating a fascist coup for more than half a century. I hope we are not awakening to that too late.
yes, i've been thinking back to that bizarre spectacle when Nixon, w/ Secret Service, wandered up to LIncoln Memorial, pre-dawn, to briefly meet w/ student protesters.
it's of course unthinkable that Trump would do anything like that.
i wish the press would be more open about what's happening and the obvious authoritarian playbook Trump is using. for now, it's still just not polite to discuss a GOP president that way....

You know we’ve sunk really low when our current president is outclassed by Nixon.
i couldn't believe NYT headline this morning abt Biden being in the "basement." NYT is just wed to that narrative

New Rule: The USA must now be known as the United States of Authoritarianism.

Unfortunately Eric I think things will be getting worse before they get better. Look forward to your interview with Steph this morning.
sadly, you might be right. Glad yr tuning it!
We're #1? I can just see a Trump tweet celebrating this accomplishment.
