The Republican Party as well as the owners of the mainstream press are old white men. To them, there are three strikes against VP Kamala Harris. Strike one: she's a person of color, strike 2: she's a woman, and strike 3: She's a Democrat, a popular one. It's that simple.
Lou’s comment is exactly what I was going to write; late to the party as usual!
One thing to consider in they style of the attack is the Karl Rove nature of it: turn your opponent’s strength into a negative.
Harris is unusually brilliant and analytical and stays on-mission, as someone from a prosecutorial background must. It is absolutely her style to stress she is looking into the root causes of WHY people are migrating; when she says in the interview that she doesn’t understand the question, that is genuine: she was focused on her assignment.
It’s maddening that the Rovian tactic works so well.
