I am curious why no reporter asked Trump “what democrat” when he claimed that democrats were begging him to negotiate. Is the pool coverage of trump essentially stenography? Why even bother sending reporters.
But who are these "shows" for? Are they pulling votes from the 55+percent that will vote for Biden. I don't think so. He's even losing voters from his base, or at least the ones who are not sycophants and will not vote for Trump a second time. I believe these events are set up to distract the media. Instead of pounding what happened to the Post Office on Friday night, the headlines are about his likely illegal executive order. I'm not saying that doesn't deserve ink, it does, especially since it will defund social security and medicare. But make no mistake Trump and his administration are desperate. They see the polls. They are losing "bigly". The only way for them to win is to cheat and that is well under way. By undermining the Post Office, voting by mail will become much more difficult. And where is the story about the states now being charged 55 cents for a mail in ballot instead of the usual 20 cent bulk rate fee? So the press needs to be prepared for all of the distractions that Trump is going to throw out there while behind the scenes they plot to overthrow democracy and steal this election. And I am deathly scared that with the help of the justice department, they're going to pull it off.
His awfulness keeps getting more awful. I've been saying for months now, the more attention he gets, the worse he is. Thank God there are a few brave souls who are finally standing up to him! I would love to see everyone ignoring him as much as possible. I think the only reason he wants to be reelected is because he craves attention so much. His niece's book confirms it.
I'm glad you and your family are OK. Thanks to the Enquirer link. I don't subscribe so I was not even aware of this organization. Phil Heimlich is the son of the doctor who created the Heimlich Maneuver. OT, but even before Trump became the nominee I was hearing rumblings that Republicans and business people in Ohio were fed up with the Tea Party's slash and burn approach and unwillingness to accomplish anything productive. I think Kasich sensed that because he began recreating a "kinder, gentler persona" in his campaign ads.
Jennifer Rubin praised the women reporters covering the mass murderer-in-chief in her WaPo blog today, and she really nailed it. It also was sad to see Chris Wallace revert to Fux Noise form in "questioning" Nancy Pelosi.
I love Jennifer Rubin. She's the only writer I see who speaks truth about the nature of the Republican Party. I think she's the strongest anti Republican voice in the media.
What reversion? He’s been consistent that fact that his “tough” interview was framed that way just is an indicator of how low the bar is. If I were a dem I would remind Wallace of this every time he interviewed me.
This piece reawakens in me something I wonder about: Given that as a rule that about the only thing newsworthy about these episodes of the Trump show are demonstrations of an unhinged POTUS, instead providing the props of reporters, why not just one or two pool reporters? And, for that matter, why not provide instant fact checks to Trump’s lies and misstatements? This is worse false balance and has been literally deadly; instead of presenting both sides, even though one is likely a lie, when it comes to coverage of Trump, nearly always just the lie gets reported. Anything less than instant corrections is a failure. And it’s resulted in the establishment press being a source of disinformation.
These newly minted anti-Trumpers say their mistake was judgement not intent? They’ve been watering the Bible thumping science denying racist sexist tree of Trump their entire careers. If that’s not intent the word has no meaning. Now they’re worried about their immortal souls. It’s too little too late. They are going to hell, an afterlife they richly deserve.
Indeed. But President Obama is sane. People do not live in fear that he will discover the country named Niger.
But the real point of contention is that you see the live coverage of Trump’s lies, mispronunciations, and word sludge as positive. I see it as instant evidence of Trump’s utter incompetence. A strong negative. The more he talks the dumber he looks.
Or are we really talking about the level of American education where someone would actually chug Clorox because Trump says to?
Perhaps— his supporters follow him blindly, not questioning anything he says, no matter how obviously untrue. This is more troubling than the beast itself.
Illegitimate, moronic prez = no legitimate news. "Journalism" can make or break a person. Ask HRC.
In fact, it's been dangerous all along to report his lies time after time. It only serves to reinforce his standing with his ignorant base.
I repeat: it is DANGEROUS to further Dump's agenda... whatever that may be (besides encouraging mayhem and lining his pockets).
Let him stew for awhile without these bogus press conferences. His people need a breather so they, too, can comprehend the idiocy. Dump keeps them all fired up for a reason.....
I wish they would stop covering these events. Let him stand there without cameras or reporters and see how long that lasts.
it would literally break his heart to be ignored.
(whispers) He doesn't have a heart to break.

thanks! all doing well.

I'll second the motion!

"Didn't you mess this one up? Shouldn't you have cut a deal?" Please.

There are no more "serious journalists", you are activists and partisan hacks.
Trump promises to permanently defund medicare and SS at his resort and all the rich members in their golf shorts laugh and cheer... Great optics.

Back to it Mr. Boehlert.
For good or ill the President of the Unites States is news. His statements are ipso facto “news”.
Now this President ignores accuracy, rationality, or coherence in his statements. Doesn’t make them less newsworthy.
Now live coverage is a different matter. But legitimate reporters need to be there.
Besides, without covering Trump’s “press conferences”; we wouldn’t have known about “Thigh-land”. And wasn’t “Yo-Semites” press conference also?
agreed. it's a live coverage i have a problem with. i.e. every Obama utterance wasn't treated as breaking news.
Indeed. But President Obama is sane. People do not live in fear that he will discover the country named Niger.

You must be joking. At least I hope!

Not joking at all.
It’s the issue I hinted at with Mr. Boehlert.
Do you have so little faith in the intelligence of the American Public that you see the need to protect them from Trumpian lies?
Trump supporters do not watch legitimate news services. They watch Fox or OANN or whatever NRATV morphed into.
And if the American Public is so ignorant, as to need to be shielded from Trumpian lies; then how can you have faith that they will vote rationally?
One of the problems Liberals have dealt with for ages is an elitist “know-it-all” or paternalistic “know better” attitude.
Respectfully you look in mirror before demanding that the Public not be allowed to see Trump’s “events”.
And I still contend that those events are a net negative to Trump’s image.
