Eric, I can’t believe you didn’t post this article and video:
“Eric Boehlert Annihilates The Press For Appeasing Right-Wing Trump Voters For Four Years
On Cross Connection, Boehlert tells Tiffany Cross, "There's been a complete failure to understand this has been a hate movement, this has been a dangerous, radical hate movement, that the Republican party has completely enveloped."
You might have heard me cheering when I watched it. I have only one request — next time you ask why the media doesn’t care about Biden voters or Obama voters, please don’t forget Hillary voters. Millions of us women are still furious and heartbroken about her loss.
You are right. The men in my family are examples. But the media really ignores women. I have never seen the women in my family - my daughter, nieces, sister-in-law so outraged by anything. They still are.
What I find amazing is that either Newsmax or OANN could attract any viewers at all. The former is dull as dirt - soporific. A bunch of angry uncharismatic bores droning amidst plain production at best. The latter is more interesting because what happens there is just plain crazy. OANN is an insane asylum of people whose talent is somewhere between Newsmax and Infowars. I mean, who the hell is Alex Salvi and why do they have a 14 year old hosting a program?
Like O’Reilly before him, Hannity found it impossible to stay on top of Bullshit Mountain. But what none of them ever thought was possible, the entire landscape is moving under them.
It's great news that Hannity is failing at Fox News but I'm just startled that for so long, so many watched this guy. I read that Hannity earns around 40 million a year, that's more than Francisco Lindor, the newly acquired shortstop for the New York Mets will make this coming season and likely years to come. I would feel much better if Fox was slipping because people have woken up and are turning to more fact based news like CNN and MSNBC. But the fact that Newsmax and OAN is taking much of Fox's share suggests that a lot of folks, not all, but a lot didn't wake up and see the light. They have found better propaganda that aligned with their confirmation bias on these newer more outrageous outlets.
Those viewers have never been in the mindset of looking for true facts and answers. They still believe this is the 70's when you could listen to and believe, Cronkite, Huntley and Brinkley, Roger Mudd, all of them. Those days are long gone and there is no leash on the people who claim they are "newscasters". They are simply bobbleheads spewing vomit all over the airways. Print has it share of those also..
There are plenty of newscasts and hosts on those that don’t put out “tabloid media”. All one has to do today is change the channel and look them up. There is more to the wide media world than the US MSM and the 3 cable channels
I've long-since turned off the television news. I get my news mostly on-line, and you don't have to limit yourself. Check out The Guardian, Agence France-Presse, the BBC, and even al-Jazeerah. They all do a much better job of covering the actual happenings in the U.S. Small newsletters like Eric's help fill in the blanks. Besides Press Run, I also get several other newsletters, every one of them because they provide thoughtful, fact-based reporting, analysis, and commentary:
[1] The Weekly Sift. “the political blog for people who don’t have time for political blogs”. It’s aimed at ordinary Americans who want to stay informed without making a full-time job out of it. https://weeklysift.com
[2] Big. A newsletter about monopolies and how they affect our politics, and what we can do about them, by the author of "Goliath, The 100-Year War Between Monopoly Power and Democracy". https://mattstoller.substack.com/
[3] The Dispatch. "Fact-based reporting and commentary on politics, policy and culture—informed by conservative principles. " Requires registration. Full access requires paid subscription (I didn't). https://thedispatch.com/
[4] Popular Information. "Daily news and analysis that respects you as citizen. You won’t just learn about who is up and who is down. You’ll get in-depth information and perspective on the things that really matter." Requires registration and paid subscription to comment (I did). https://popular.info
[5] ProPublica. "An independent, nonprofit newsroom that produces investigative journalism with moral force. We dig deep into important issues, shining a light on abuses of power and betrayals of public trust — and we stick with those issues as long as it takes to hold power to account." https://www.propublica.org
This is very welcome news, Eric. But as we both know, once Biden settles into the Presidency and the Trump trials (in New York) are over, ALL the cable news ratings will plummet.
On another note, please write an essay exhorting the media NOT to cover Trump and his family once they leave the White House (unless it’s about the aforementioned trials).
I agree with you I want to see them all crying when they realize they are losing everything they have stolen. I want to see them in orange not designer orange either.
One of the things I've noticed over the last month or two, Fox News and its online version (Fox Lies Online? Can't remember what it's called), have been putting on ads during NFL games. I don't remember seeing them last year, or even earlier in the football season.
They're getting desperate for viewers that aren't sitting around their homes in Boca waiting for the sweet release of death.
I think it's ironic since the red hats all said they weren't going to watch the NFL anymore.

Oh good I’m glad you liked! thanks hot sharing it
Millions of men, too. ☺

All of the men in my life - family, friends, colleagues, acquaintances - supported her.

yeah just from a TV production standpoint I find both channels unwatchable
Couldn't have said better myself. Now, the bid question for OANN and Newsmax is.. What do they do for $ and viewers when Trump goes to jail?

Lindor is a better hitter
:)

My youngest brother gets his disinformation from The Epoch Times. They want the states to prove the election wasn't stolen. 🙄
Proving a negative.. I don't think I have ever heard of Epoch Times.
It's the propaganda rag for the Falun Gong. Hard right, full trump.
I want a news presenter not a presenter of how I should feel about the news. "Good riddance tabloid media" can't come soon enough.

When I have the time and inclination, I browse Medium (https://www.medium.com), Quora (https://www.quora.com), Daily Kos (https://www.dailykos.com), and the headlines at Fox News to see what part of the real world they're ignoring today.
We share many bookmarks it seems.

While I am pleased to see that Hannity is tanking I don’t think that growing viewership at OAN and Newsmax is good news.
As for ignoring the Trumps except for the trials, I also want to see extensive coverage of their businesses going under.
I agree with you I want to see them all crying when they realize they are losing everything they have stolen. I want to see them in orange not designer orange either.
Traitor Tot is under investigation by the DC police for his part in last Weds riot prompting.. He will NEVER survive jail. He's toooo pretty for that
