Also being ignored is the fact that unlike Dr. Ford's, Reade's story is a work in progress. What began as an awkward and unwanted touching of her hair and neck is now a felonious digital penetration. Is that consistent with Biden's well established character? Of course not. But given the escalation of the charge, the more apt comparison is not to Kavanaugh, but to the alleged rape by Trump in a NYC department store changing room. As expected, Trump denied the incident ever happened, his base didn't care, and the media quickly moved on, even though it was certainly within the character of the self-described pussy grabber to do such a thing. Tara Reade's claim seems destined to become the 2020 version of Hillary's emails...something the "liberal media" can hammer while Trump's tsunami of BS roars past.

correct. I missed it if the NYT editorial page demanded RNC set up investigation of Trump allegations the way they are demanding DNC and Biden

I must correct your opening line. This "sexual assault" charge against Biden is only one month old, not 27-yearsold, as you stated. She never made a "sexual harassment" charge against him until one year ago. Her charge in 1993 was harassment and she even made statements that Biden was not responsible, indicating that the alleged harassment she claims to have suffered came from his staff.

you know that's a good point.

Has everyone forgotten the “Swift Boat” attacks?

Has everyone forgotten the sexual assault charges invented against Robert Mueller?

Has everyone forgotten Newt Gingrich’s attacks against Jim Wright in 1994?

Has everyone forgotten James O’Keefe’s invented scandals?

No, this is another in a long line of invented “scandals”, which demand “investigation”, (remember Benghazi?)

GOP plays a distinct brand of hardball and it works bc the press buys in

Indeed. And it's remarkable to me that they continue to do so. The number of publications & journalists I respect continues to dwindle. I'm so grateful for Press Run. It's such a breath of fresh air. Thank you.⚘

Just had a nasty thought.

The “charges” started off that Biden “made her feel uncomfortable”. They have metastasized into he taped her.

What if “uncomfortable” evidence exists? Will the “media” convert that to asserting that rape occurred? Will they “cover the controversy”?

Add: Ronnie Reagan’s fantasies echoed, but not checked, in the media. I’d dare say modern GOP lying started with St. Ronnie.

The establishment press have been giving the GOP a pass for so long that when they bother to push back it has no effect — much too little, much too late, then back to cheerleading, echoing, being complicit — now complicit in the GOP’s literally murderous failures (some deliberate) in addressing the pandemic.

Disagree at least slightly.

Republican attacks on “the Press” go back at least to Nixon.

There are 2 major ramifications.

The creation of an entire Right Wing Media Complex. Including Fox, OANN, Sinclair Media, the Mercer Family publishing, Alex Jones, & Limbaugh.

The legitimate media is so fearful of the RW attacks; that they go out of their way to be “balanced”. Even when “balance” isn’t warranted.

In the not-so-distant past, there were the charges against Al Franken. We lost a potential future President when he was pushed out.

The fact that the woman who accused him, Leeanne Tweeden, was a Hannity guest and Roger Stone knew about her accusations before they were made public should have alerted the media to the need to thoroughly vet her claims. Had they done so they would have seen the YouTube videos of her doing to men on the USO tours exactly the kinds of things she claimed were inappropriate for Franken to do. I have seen videos of her on stage grabbing a male perfomers buttocks, grabbing men and planting big kisses on them with no warning, etc.

Did anyone notice the piece on Ms. Reade on the NBC Nightly News on Thursday, May 7? It was presented by Andrea Mitchell. It was indistinguishable from what would be expected from Fox News. There was no mention of Ms. Reade's changing story, unhinged tweets and previous statements regarding Joe Biden that strongly contradict what she is saying now. But most disturbing, the one question asked of her that the segment presented to a national audience (on tape by Megan Kelly) was: Do you think Joe Biden should abandon his campaign for president (words to that effect)? And her answer was (surprise!) yes. Am I wrong to despair that the vetted part of this story will never be made known to the general public?

May I suggest a slight re-wording? So far, it seems it isn't a 27 year old allegation. It's a new allegation of something that supposedly took place 27 years ago. In my view there's a difference there.

Tara Reade on version number 7 is down to was asked to serve some drinks but that doesn't stop msm from repeating 2016 'but her emails' that weren't hers but the campaign and DNC. Reade a self described Putin loyalist, thinks Vladdy is a hotty that American women pant over, whose tie color speaks darlink I come for you but too busy right now and tweeted timing, timing (since deleted) will seriously harm #MeToo survivors that actually have been sexually assaulted, raped and MSNBC, CNN will have helped that with single determination.

Slightly off topic Eric but i was looking at the 2020 Pulitzers tonight and was struck that not one writing reporting prize was given for Trump coverage. Barry Blitt won for his witty, elegant cartoons lampooning Trump in New Yorker. The NY Times was a finalist in Public Service for its articles on Trump's war on science. Laudable, I guess. I see this as a comment on the quality of reporting on this vile administration, this year at least.

and it's telling that NYT was finalist for a piece that wasn't really a political/Trump story. i.e. not produced by its WH team etc.
