At 7pm they're going up against Shep on CNBC doing a news program. Just because Fox News never really liked him doesn't mean the audience didn't. I fully expect that a lot of FNC viewers flip over to Shep because he's likeable, friendly and familiar. He's comfort-news for the aging Fox News crowd.

hard to recall Shep wasn’t even on Fox! wasn’t that long ago but channel just has no room fir actual news

If so, then the Fox audience should have followed Megyn Kelly (who was a much bigger star than Shep) to NBC, but that didn’t happen.

There’s another way to look at it when NBC poached Kelly: they were not looking to bring the Fox Audience with her (they knew that the Fox Viewer’s eyeballs wouldn’t go to the Liberal News), but they wanted her audience to turn off Fox. That helped them with ratings: it wasn’t that NBC got a boost, it was that Fox had a (slight) loss.

I can see the reverse psychology of that argument. My feeling is that there's an intangible here and it's simply that Shep is likeable. Even I like the guy. As I said, his news program is friendly news for people who don't want to be too jarred by what they see or have someone being aggressive at them.

Shep is likable, and he’s an actual journalist. He is a much better fit at CNBC than he ever was at Fox. I just doubt that Fox is shedding viewers to CNBC.

As delightful as the ratings fail for Fox is, I think the two billion dollar each lawsuits will be their ultimate demise. Not only is the network being sued by two voting machine manufacturers but the individual broadcasters are also named. One of Murdoch’s sons has already bailed out of the family business

I hope they televise the trials. The ratings would be over the top and popcorn sales would soar.

Well finally! Some good news for a change :) I'm extremely happy that Rachel Maddow is beating up Sean Hannity. There is no harder working journalist on TV than Rachel. Her dedication to the truth and her insightful interviews and analysis have helped millions see the truth behind the corrupt Trump administration and Republicans in general. Regarding CNN, I love when people say they are nothing more than a liberal mouthpiece. Interesting that in the eyes of the opposition, following the facts makes them liberal. Like that's a bad thing?

They are toast without Trump’s daily drama. Tucker is the only one that has some charisma. Hannity and Ingraham have no business on TV. I expect the ratings to continue to plummet. So Sad!

This is off topic but I just couldn’t ignore it. Yesterday David Ignatius praised Biden in this article “ Biden’s surprisingly successful first two weeks”. Quite the back handed compliment. At the end of the article praising what Biden has done so far Ignatius just had to add this idiotic statement:

“Biden is vastly short of being a perfect president.” He provides no negative evidence, but worse he implies that such a thing as a perfect president exists. That is the thinking of a four year old who still believes in Santa and the Tooth Fairy.

Your opening line is backwards - should be "one year ago this week." And here's to many more! 🥂

Friday news dump says Lou Dobbs is CANCELED.

Stop. Drop him under the lawsuit getaway bus. And Roll over him.

If Dobbs is program-canceling toxicity, or wanted by the FBI, that might explain why Liars Larson was off the air today unexpectedly (in reruns).

Dobbs was all up in Larson, (who incited Portland riots all summer, giving Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys free broadcast hours), coming on since Biden election.

It seemed odd that Dobbs stooped down to D-list Larson when I heard it.

(Also pillow goon himself (M.L.) played to down-market Portland radio in recent weeks, as never heard frothing here before.)

Curious.

If Smartmatic hears Dobbs' slanders in archived programs at LarsLarson(.)com it might add another defendant to the lawsuit list and cancel another hate-talk programmer. Larson settled out for $200,000 sued for defamation and libel once earlier, 25 years ago. (Paul Allen paid.) So repeat offender.

Maybe they could recoup some ratings if they broadcast in the nude...😮

(Not that I've ever watched, or plan to, for *any* reason... unless I feel the need to induce vomiting, maaaaybe.)

Which reminds us anew of the bigger problem: The rest of the media treating those who work for Fux Noise as though they are legitimate journalists. Joe Biden understands that Peter Doocy isn't a reporter, so why don't they? It's a rhetorical question, of course.

As for the article about Nazi propaganda, “Movie at the Ellipse: A Study in Fascist Propganda”, I have been reading about Finland’s decades-long war on propganda. Finland is ranked a strong number 1 among European countries in successfully combating propaganda/fake news with an extensive media literacy and critical thinking skills education program for kids from elementary school through high school.

It is much more effective that this education is part of teaching subjects like math instead of just being taught as a separate subject.

Query what ratings for FNC were prior to Trump. My recollection is that they were way higher than now so I don’t know that the loss of Donnie and the upstarts attracting eyeballs is the complete answer. I think people maybe just have had it with FNC. Maybe just too much unhinged BS from the opinion side is finally alienating a lot of viewers.

Too, as the joke goes, a big part of the Fox audience skews really old. Maybe Covid also caused a big hit.

OTOH, Fox has done its harm so who cares what’s going on as long they’re going, going...

Fox ratings prior to Trump were always high enough that they were No. 1 cable channel. i.e. during Obama years. will be interesting if they're able to turn this around in 2021.

Mr. Boehlert, suggest the fact that Fox viewers return for the 8:00 Hannity/Carlson/Ingram circus undercuts your argument of Fox disaffection.

Or we might discuss if the suggested 7:00 “hosts” don’t have the “star power” of the later three.

Certainly Fox is no longer the only conservative game in town. There’s an impact where their 40% of the population audience has other options.

But don’t count Fox out.

And, completely off topic, what do you make of them dropping the “fair and balanced” slogan a few years ago?

Oh right “fair and balanced,” I forgot abt that. I think they still try to push that facade. Msybe they just felt slogan got old?
